TIRAUMEA

1 RED CROSS SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING ("Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Tiraumea Red Cross Society two new members were enrolled. The balance sneet showed a good credit balance considering that the branch had only been going 18 months and there were only 31 members. The following articles were made during the year: 22 pullovers, 25 pairs socks, 9 pairs pyjamas, 2 dressing gowns, 2 caps, 1 .pair mittens, 9 dozen b.p. covers, 2 cases of wooden knick-knacks which, with a bundle of clean linen, had all been forwarded to the centre. One member had joined the C.N.R. and was at present in the Wellington district and two members - had left to take up State nursing. Seven of the girls who passed their examinations in the winter had completed their 60 hours at hospital; some had dohe extra duty and two were doing duty at the Masterton Hospital. The election of officers resulted:— President, Mrs Harman; secretary, Mrs Wallis; joint treasurers, Mesdames Robbie and Seymour; vice-president and member of committee, Mrs Hay; committee, Mrs Reg Houlbrooke and Miss R. Jewitt. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Hansen and Kitchen. W.D.F.U. Dance The Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union organised a dance last Friday, there being a good attendance from Pongaroa and Alfredton. The music was supplied by Mrs Houlbrooke and Mr Rowden. Extras were played, by Misses M. Smith and E. Edmonds and Mr Harman. Messrs P. Hay and L. Curtis were the M’s.C. The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Edmonds and partner and the Monte Carlo by Misses M. McManaway and M. Lindegreen. A raffle was won by Mr R. Seymour, Alfredton. Miss E. Hansen rendered two humorous recitations. A home-made supper was served by members. Person?.!. Mr and Mrs H. Harman, of Lower Hutt, and Mrs O’Donnell, Pahiatua, are guests of Mrs Harman, Haunui. Mrs Reg Houlbrooke and Miss R. Jewitt are doing V.A.D. work at the Masterton Hospital. The friends of Mr and Mrs Hay will be sorry to hear that their son, Jim, has had to undergo a serious operation in the Wellington Hospital.
