LATE MISS CARD

FUNERAL IN FEATHERSTON TODAY. The funeral of the late Miss Harriet Card, Mayoress of Featherston, took place in Featherston this morning. The funeral was one of the largest seen in Featherston for many years. Representatives of local bodies were present from all parts of the Wairarapa. An impressive service was held at St. Teresa's Church, where solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father McGlone, assisted by the Rev. Fathers Connor (Wellington), Brennan (Upper Hutt), Moore (Masterton), and Martin (Army chaplain). A wealth of beautiful wreaths were in evidence, bearing a striking testimony to the esteem and respect in which the late Miss Card, was held by all sections of the community. The pall-bearers were: Messrs C. R. Holmes (Mayor of Martinborough), A. W. Horton (Mayor of Greytown), J. F. Thompson (representing the Wairarapa Hospital Board), N. C. C. Shepherd (Wairarapa Racing Club and Automobile Association), M. B. Tait (old residents), and T. G. Hardie (Featherston Borough Council).
