TIRAUMEA
RED CROSS SOCIETY AN ENJOYABLE PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A most enjoyable party was held in the local hall on Saturday evening by the Tiraumea sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Miss Jean Hart, who has joined the civil nursing reserve, was the guest of honour. The early part of the gathering was spent in playing 500, the winners being:—Ladies: Mrs Duncan. Men: Mr Olsen. Consolation: Ladies: Miss D. Hart; men, Mr M. Robbie. After supper had been served, Mrs Reg, Houlbrooke, who is leader of the local voluntary aids, wished Miss Hart the best of luck in her new work, and presented her with a gift from the members of the Red Cross Society. Mrs Harman Junr., on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, made Miss Hart a presentation. Miss Hart, who was accorded musical honours, suitably returned thanks. As the president was unable to be present, Mrs Wallis, secretary, asked Mrs Jewitt, the oldest settler and member, to present the Home Nursing and First Aid certificates won during the year, ten candidates receiving them. For the dancing the music was supplied by Mrs Houlbrooke, Messrs Harman and Barker. Personal Items. Mrs and Miss Harman are on a visit to Wellington. Mesdames Laing and Mrs Hislop are visiting Wellington. Mrs Green (Masterton) is the guest of Mrs Raleigh. Miss D. Hart, Pahiatua, is spending a few days with her parents. Mrs McManaway is staying with her mother, Mrs Foreman, Masterton. | Miss N. Curtis is spending a holiday in Wellington. Miss Jean Hart has left to take up her new duties in the civil nursing reserve in Wellington.
