The total value of assets insured by the Australian War Damage Commission at September 30 last was £2,689,000.000. Of this total £2,523,000,000 was insured under a compulsory scheme, which required insurance on plant and stock of which the value exceeded £lOOO and on real estate. Assets insured under a voluntary scheme were valued at £166,000,000. Disclosing these figures, the Commonwealth Treasurer, Mr J. B. Chifley. said the premiums collected totalled £13,958,000, and claims paid totalled only £4140. but those being investigated were in resoect of property valued at £7,450,000.
