MN THE FAR NORTH MURDER AND SUICIDE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, Wednesday. _ A double tragedy ocurred at Ahipara, a Maori settlement at the southern end of the Ninety-Mile Beach, yesterday afternoon, when a Maori farmer, after killing his wife, took his own life. The victims were Kahiti Koha, a farmer, aged about 61 years, and Mrs Ani Kahiti Koha, aged about 58 years. Koha, a returned soldier of the last war, lived with his wife, two daughters and an adopted son in a threeroomed house on a farm at Ahipara. He was farming under the supervision of the Native Department. The tragedy occurred shortly after 2 o’clock. Mr Brian Wilson, an officer of the Native Department at Kaitaia, arrived at the farm and found Koha some distance from the house. He was suffering from a severe throat wound and was clutching a razor in his right hand. He died a short time afterward.
The body of Mrs Koha was discovered about 20 yards further away from the house. Deep wounds had been inflicted on the head, and a blood-stained axe was found near by.
