Mrs Geoffrey Falloon, Essex Street, Masterton, is visiting Dunedin. Mrs F. C. Lewis, Renall Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Wellington.

Mr R. W. Carpenter .Mayor of Waipukurau, is on a visit to Masterton, where he formerly resided. Mrs F. R. Bodie, Tauranga, is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs G. W. Sellar, Colombo Road, Masterton. Mr and Mrs T. T. Denbee and Mrs Newman, Renall Street, Masterton, who have been staying at Waitarere Beach, have returned to Masterton.

The funeral of the late Mi’ J. C. D. Catton took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The Rev. D. W. Storkey conducted the service at the residence and also that at the graveside. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by sympathisers. They included those from the following: Wairarapa Crippled Children's Society, staff of Masterton Borough Council, members of medical platoon, Masterton Home Guard, Sir Charles and Lady Norwood. The pall-bearers were: Messrs M. Winslade, R. Judd, B. McMaster and G. L. Scrivener.

The distinction of being the first woman seagoing radio operator in a New Zealamt ship belongs to Miss Gladys M. Yorke, of Parnell, Auckland, chief radio officer in the Union Steam Ship Company’s steamer Tamahine, which is on the Wellington-Picton run. Miss Yorke is believed to be the first woman seagoing radio operator in the Southern Hemisphere. She has just finished her first two months in the appointment. Miss Yorke, who is a trained nurse, was at one time on the nursing staff of the Masterton Hospital and for a period was engaged in professional duties here in a private capacity- ...
