Grass Fires.
Altogether, four grass fires occurred in Masterton on Saturday afternoon. No damage resulted in any case. The fires were in the Masters Crescent, Cornwall and Short Street areas. Wellington Fire. Three delivery vans were destroyed and seven damaged by heat when fire broke out at the premises of Denhard Bakeries, Ltd., 194 Adelaide Road, Wellington, at 1.55 a.m. yesterday. The wooden portion of the shed housing the vans was extensively damaged. Thousands of Ladybirds. Ladybirds in quantity arc at the present lime very noticeable in Napier and other parts of Hawke's Bay. "There seemed Io be tens of thousands of them.” said a Hastings visitor when mentioning that at Westshore one day last week he and his family had to leave Hie beach because of thousands of ladybirds of many different colours which clung to their hair and clothes.
Light Fall of Rain. A light fall of rain occurred in Maslerton and district early this morning. At Solway, Mr. 11. IVI. Boddington recorded eight points and at Waingawa, the Public Works Department, reported six points. Although pastures and gardens might be freshened up a little, the fall was not heavy enough to be of real benefit.
