BIG DAYLIGHT ATTACK

ON NORTH-WEST GERMANY MADE BY UNITED STATES HEAVY BOMBERS. ALLIES ALSO STRIKE HEAVILY IN FRANCE. LONDON, January 4. United States heavy bombers, with an escort of American and British fighters, attacked military targets in daylight in North-West Gcr.rnany today. There is no official news yet of the targets attacked. Ii.A.F. fighters destroyed five enemy aircraft. The Allied losses were 18 heavy'bombers and two fighters.

The weather across the Channel today was brilliantly fine and strong forces of Allied aircraft crossed and recrossed the Channel in a series of attacks on military objectives in Northern France. The attacks were officially called the heaviest yet. Four bombers and one fighter are missing from these operations. R.A.F. Mosquito bombers attacked targets in Western Germany last night. AH the planes returned safely.
