FIFTH ARMY
CLOSELY THREATENING ROAD TO ROME ADVANCE BEYOND SAN PIETRO. FIVE TANKS KNOCKED OUT • BY EIGHTH ARMY. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) RUGBY, 1 December 20. According *to the United Nations radio at Algiers, the Fifth Army line now runs from Venafro, through San Pietro, to Rocca, with San Pietro in its hands. The army is pushing forward to threaten San Vittore, six miles south of the Casino Pass, guarding the main inland road northwards. The Germans are laying mines and booby traps.
On the Eighth Army front the Allied forces knocked out five tanks and captured fifty parachutists.
