MEETING OF WOMEN

ADDRESSED BY LABOUR CANDIDATE. Despite a very wet afternoon Mr J. Robertson, Labour candidate for Masterton, recently addressed a large gathering of women at the Y.M.C.A. rooms. Mrs Copp, president of the women’s branch of the Labour Party, in intror ducing Mr Robertson, paid a tribute to the excellent services he had rendered as representative of the electorate. Mr Robertson was heartily applauded. At the conclusion of his address a unanimous vote of confidence in Mr Robertson and the Labour Government was carried. Mr Robertson spoke of New Zealand’s war record and the danger of invasion which threatened their country when Japan entered the war, but thanks to the Americans the position was now considerably relieved. Mr Robertson spoke of the courage of their soldiers, who had won world-wide admiration. He also dealt with problems'of rehabilitation and touched on the Government’s policy in this direction. It was the Government’s intention to push on with the building of State houses at the earliest possible moment. The family and soldiers’ benefits were the highest in the'world, said Mr Robertson.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Perfect, Prout, Paige and Palmer.
