* DAIRY SEASON FACTORIES PREPARING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Preparations are being made for the commencement of the dairy factory season which will open at the end of this month or early in August. Secretaries are busy preparing their annual balance sheets and reports. It is understood that the payout at most factories will be in the vicinity of Is 7d per lb. of butterfat.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION. At the monthly meeting of the Carterton Women's Institute, Miss Wolters presided over a good attendance of members, The main business was the discussion of the remits and amendments regarding the constitution, and a direction was given to the delegate, Mrs L. Hurndell, in regard to the voting thereon at the general conference. It was decided that the Institute become a member of the Crippled Children’s Society. Mrs N. McKinnon, of the Parkvale Women's Institute, gave an interesting demonstration of egg-shell mosaic work. She was accorded a vote of thanks and was presented with a bunch of spring flowers. The competitions resulted as follows:—Boy’s trousers made from used material: Mrs A. T. Hawke, 1; Mrs. G. Steffert, 2; Mrs L. Hurndell, 3. Darned sock: Mrs G. Steffert. 1; Mrs L. Hurndell. 2; Mrs A. T. Hawke, 3. Jar of pickles: Mrs A. T. Hawke, 1; Mrs Hurndell, 2. Six biscuits: Mrs A. T. Hawke, 1; Mrs G. Steffert, 2; Mrs L. Hurndell and Mrs H. Goodin, equal, 3.
Air Cadets. Members of the Carterton Air Cadet Corps will commence rifle training on the miniature rifle range in the State Theatre on Thursday night. They will be in charge of Mr Hardy, with supervisors from the Miniature Rifle Club. Home Guard Dance. The traffic unit of the Carterton Home Guard has engaged the State Theatre for a dance on July 28. Ashton's Orchestra will supply the music. Soldiers Return. All the soldiers who returned with the New Zealand contingent did not come by the mail train yesterday. Corporal Karl Gustafson arrived by the 5.45 p.m. railcar and was met and welcomed by the Mayor and Mr F. L. Barr, president of the Returned Services’*Association. Warrant Officer L. Hack arrived by the 8.20 p.m. railcar. Members, of the R.S.A. were present in large numbers to welcome the soldiers in the morning as well as Mr A. E. Reid, County chairman. Personal. Mr Neil Hannah, of Otaki, was a visitor to Carterton on Monday. REGENT THEATRE “THE PRIME MINISTER” The story of Benjamin Disraeli will be presented tonight in the picture, “The Prime Minister,” in which the chief roles are taken by John Gielgud, Diana Wynyard and Will Fyfe.
