CONSIDERED UNFAIR

TO FARMING COMMUNITY. HOLDING ELECTION IN SEPTEMBER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government’s decision to hold the general election in September was criticised by Mr Dickie (Opposition, Patea) during the debate on the Imprest Supply Bill in the House of Representatives yesterday. He said the election would probably be held early in that month, and this would be unfair to the farming community. It was unfair to the country districts, said Mr Dickie, because the campaign would be in full swing in August when the farmers and others would be busy with lambs, calves and other urgent spring activity. They could not attend election meetings. It seemed that the election was being held in September to meet the convenience of one man —the Minister of Finance — who wanted to get back to Washington. Because of this the country was to be turned upside down. The election should take place in October, when the farming community had a breathing space.
