A former well-known resident of Nireaha, Mr Joseph Bowyer, died in the Greytown Hospital yesterday at the age of 81 years.
The funeral of the late Mr R. Kilmister, which took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon, was largely attended. The Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich officiated. Messrs R. Kilmister, F. Kilmister, A. Billington and C. A. Skeet were the pall-bearers.
The marriage of Sheila, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J. G. McFarlane, to Pilot Officer Donald Frank Thompson, R.N.Z.A.F., younger son of Mrs M. Thompson, of Christchurch, took place quietly in Knox Church, Masterton, yesterday. The ceremony was performed by the Rev J. M. Simpson.
Advice has been received in Masterton that Sergeant. Pilot James H. Wright, the youngest son of Mr and Mrs F. N. Wright, of 127 Dixon Street, Masterton, has been promoted to commissioned rank in the R.N.Z.A.F. He has been operating in the Bomber Command in England for some time and was amongst the New Zealand pilots who took part in the last big raid on Berlin.
Mr Justice Blair was elected president of the Wellington College Old Boys’ Association at the annual meeting and the election of other officebearers resulted as follows: —Vicepresidents, Messrs H. Desborough and A. J. Curtis; hon secretary, Mr W. W. Cook; assistant hon secretary, Mr R. Darroch, Junr.; hon treasurer, Mr B. O. Binnie; committee, Lieut.-Colonel A. L. George, Colonel R. St. J. Beere, Messrs C. A. Innes, C. D. MacDonald, J. R. Cuddie, T. E. Beard, H. C. Middlebrook, R. Cooke, R. Pope and B. P. Julian.
