Venus Seen in Daylight.

A star has been seen during the day recently by a worker at Te Ore Ore. It has been observed in the mid-after-noon, in a north-north-east direction. According to a local authority, the star is probably Venus. Interhouse Dance.

The Wairarapa Interhouse Association will hold another dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, tomorrow night when a gipsy tap dance competition will be held. Mrs Ashton’s Orchestra will provide the music and other novelty dances will be held. St. John Ambulance Dance.

The St. John Ambulance Brigade will hold a dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, on Saturday night in aid of the Brigade funds. Mr J. Barnes’s orchestra will provide the music and there will be novelty dances. Supper will be served and patrons are assured of an enjoyable evening. Meat Producers’ Board.

Mr A. McDonald presided over a representative meeting of sheep farmers held yesterday to . nominate two members to the electoral committee of the N.Z. Meat Producers’ Board. Messrs A. McDonald and W. A. lorns were nominated. Mr L. T. Daniell was nominated as a candidate for a seat on the Wool Council.

Sheepowners’ Federation. A meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa Sheepowners’ Federation was held yesterday to discuss various matters affecting sheep farmers. The following were appointed as delegates to the annual meeting of the Sheepowners’ Federation which will be held in Wellington on July 14 and 15: Messrs A. McDonald, W. ' A. lorns and L. T. Daniell. It was decided to invest £lOO in war bonds.

Appeal to Save Electricity. Repairs to the generator which ceased to function at Arapuni have not been completed, and the Wairarapa Electric Power Board consequently appeals to business firms in the Wairarapa to close between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday and to consumers to use as little electricity as possible between 4 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. on that day. It is expected that the repairs at Arapuni will be completed by Friday, July 2.

Play Reading. Another successful play reading was given by members of the Masterton Little Theatre Society last night, the subject being “Love from a Stranger,” a thriller by Frank Vosper, based on Agatha Christie’s story. The principal readings, which were outstanding, were given by Mrs E. J. Rich, Mrs J. A. Kehnedy and Mr H. H. Daniell. Others taking part were Mrs Brodie, Miss West and Messrs L. T. Daniell, Vivian Joseph and J. G. Heasley. Miss M. Stewart read the stage directions.
