Mrs T. W. Wardell, Te Whiti, is visiting Auckland. Mr and Mrs A. Herrick, of Suva, Fiji, are at present staying with Mr and Mrs O. J. Herrick, Hacker Street. The King has appointed Admiral Sir John Tovey, a Grand Commander of the Bath, a British Official Wireless message states. Sir John Tovey transferred recently from the command of the British Home Fleet to the post of Commander-in-Chief at the Nore. The death has occurred in Wellington of Mr John Fuller Woodward, a well-known master printer, at the age of 63 years. In 1912 he founded the firm of Woodward and Jackson, from which developed the Commercial Printing Company, of which he was managing director. Mrs C. Cornelius has been re-elected president of the Pahiatua branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ , Union. The general committee is as follows: —Miss Gibson, Mesdames E. L. Holdaway, C. H. Wilton (Ballance), J. Miller and C. Smith (Konini), J. Bremner, H. Paterson, David Crewe, A. R. Wylie, A. Vaughan (Pahiatua), J. Beckin (Nikau), W. Knox (Kaitawa), H. Cornelius and J. M. Gregory (Mangahao), W. Fergus (Ruawhata), A. Howell, F. E. Ward (Mangatainoka), W. Fulton, J. Moynahan (Kohinui), J. Reid (Mangamutu), and J. Stewart (Ngaturi). The funeral of the late Miss Gladys Egweena Heckler took place at the Hastwells Cemetery on Saturday and was largely attended, by the settlers of the surrounding district.- The services at St. Colombus Church and at the graveside were conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich and the Rev. J. C. W. Mutter, of Eketahuna. Among the many beautiful floral tributes were those from the following: Members of the Mauriceville and Ihuraua branch W.D.F.U., Mauriceville Garden Circle, Mauriceville District Sports Club, Mauriceville Croquet Club, Mauriceville Red Cross Sub-Centre, Mauriceville District Women’s Institute, members of the Country Women’s Club, members of ?ihe W.D.F.U., Eketahuna branch, members of the “Forest Downs” Golf Club, the directors of the W.F.C.A. Ltd., Masterton, Wairarapa Provincial Council W.D.F.U., and manager and staff of Messrs Murray Roberts Ltd. The pall-bearers were: Messrs W. H. Heckler Sent., W. H. Heckler Junr., A. Heckler, C. Evans, P. Evans and A. Morris.
