ENORMOUS PLANE FACTORY
NEARING COMPLETION AT DETROIT. WILLOW RUN DWARFED. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 16. A new aeroplane factory nearing completion at Detroit will dwarf Mr Henry Ford’s vast Willow Run bomber plant. Known as the Dodge-Chicago plant, it will be the world’s largest -manufacturing unit, consisting of fifteen buildings, one of which is large enough to cover fifty city blocks. It will be capable of producing each week engines of a combined horsepower equal to the entire generating capacity of Boulder Dam, which is 975,000 horse-power. Enough water, gas and electricity will be supplied to serve a large-size city.
