R.A.F. COMMANDS

PROMOTIONS IN HIGHER GRADES. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, November 27. The Air Minister announces the following changes in higher appointments in the R.A.F.: Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder to be Vice-Chief of the Air Staff; Air Chief Marshal Sir W. Sholto Douglas to be Air Officer Com-mandlng-in-Chief R.A.F., Middle East; Air Marshal T. W. Mallory to be Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Fighter Command; Air Chief Marshal Sir Philip Joubert to be an Inspector-General of the R.A.F.; Air Vice-Marshal J. C. Slessor to be Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Coastal Command, and promoted to Acting Air Marshal; Air ViceMarshal C. E. H. Medhurst to be As-sistant-Chief of Air Staff. These changes will be effected at convenient dates in the near future. Sir A. Tedder is aged 52. He has been Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief in the Middle East since May, 1941. Sir W. Sholto Douglas became an Air Chief Marshal this year. Sir P. Joubert has commanded the Coastal Command since Jupe, 1941. Air Marshal Slessor has been Assistant Chief of the Air Staff since April, 1942. Air Vice-Marshal Medhurst has been acting as temporary Vice-Chief of the Air Staff.
