(Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) ' y 8 NEW YORK, November 26, After a savage six-day offensive the American forces on Guadalcanal are consolidating their gains on the steep wooded hills west of Henderson airfield. says the New York “Daily News” Washington correspondent. The Amer- ! ican right flank is now anchqred a considerable distance beyond Point Cruz, five miles west of Henderson Field. The eastern flank reaches the vicinity of Tetere, on the coast, seven miles east of the aerodrome. This area is over twice the size of the original beach-head seized on August 7-10, and permits the construction of new landing strips, augmenting the island’s defence.
