EXPOSURE IN CANADA
ATTEMPTS TO EVADE WAR SERVICE. SOME MEDICAL OFFICERS IMPLICATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) ; QUEBEC, November 26. Court-martial woceedintfs' (exposed a scheme whereby some Canadian men went through the motions of enlistment without the risk of acceptance. Private Henri Cloutier. assigned to an army recruiting unit, pleaded guilty to charges of accepting brides for permitting persons to take medical examinations before signing enlistment papers. Cloutier promised to destroy the the papers in the event of, the examinees being found physically qualified. It was alleged that by this means the men, believing themselves unfit, could obtain discharge papers without the risk of induction into the army. r Accused with Cloutier are eight officers of the medical corps, including a member of Parliament, who was prominent in the recent anti-conscription debate. The court announced that Cloutier would be sentenced after the others had been tried individually.
