PEACE OFFENSIVE

LIKELY TO BE TRIED BY HITLER REJECTION BY ALLIES ASSURED. AXIS TACTICS DISCUSSED AMERICA. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 25. Britain and the United States, momentarily expecting a hailstorm of peace proposals from Berlin, are preparing for their uncompromising rejection, says a “Christian Science Monitor” correspondent. It is authoritatively stated that the rejection will have the complete and unqualified backing of Russia. Authorities having access to information reaching the Government from many directions do not doubt that Hitler at present is carefully preparing a peace offensive, with the double purpose, firstly, of gaining a breathing spell, and, secondly, the sowing of disunity among the Allies. His expected methods include a dramatically-stated radio appeal to the world by Hitler or a Vatican mediation, or the intercession of a neutral State, probably Spain.
