WAR IN PACIFIC
SHOULD GET PRIME CONSIDERATION OPINION OF AMERICAN CORRESPONDENT. SUCCESSFUL MARINE RAID ON GUADALCANAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, November 25. A United States Marine Corps patrol on Guadalcanal killed seventy Japanese and captured five machine-guns when they raided an enemy encampment on Monday. The marine casualties were two wounded. Dive-bombers and fighters from Guadalcanal attacked enemy installations at Munda, at the western end of New Georgia, scoring a direct hit on a warehouse. A warning that casualties in the war against Japan may eventually be larger than in all other theatres of war combined is given by the “New York Sun” correspondent, David Lawrence. Expressing an opinion that the Pacific should be given prime consideration in American overall strategy, Mr Lawfence says: “If the United Nations’ forces are to extend their offensives beyond New Guinea and the Southern Solomons, the Pacific theatre can no longer be considered a No. 2 proposition. The war with Japan _ deserves paramount attention. Putting first things first in the Pacific war will save many lives.”
