Army Reserve Transport.

The following routine orders are issued on behalf of Captain D. B. Curry, Officer Comanding, Army Reserve Transport, for the week ending August 19: On Sunday, August 16, there will be a parade of all Masterton personnel from 8.45 a.m. to noon. The sergeant of sub-section 1 will supply full complement of trucks. The parade will commence at the depot of Transport Wairarapa, Ltd. On Tuesday, August 18, the usual N.C.O. class will be held at the A. and P. Rooms. Old Landmark To Go. The old Free Public Library, so badly shattered by the last two earthquakes, which has been placed on the list of Wellington buildings to be demolished, is a quaint red brick and Oamaru stone building, with a battlemented tower. It was erected in 1892, the old Wellington Mechanics’ Institute and Athenaeum, on Lambton Quay, having been taken over by the city council. Generous aid to its erection was given by the late Mr W. H. Levin, who donated £lOOO to the funds of the new library building, and the late Hon. John Duthie, M.L.C., gave £250 to the book fund. Award to Airmen. The announcement that 253 Nev; Zealand air personnel serving overseas have received the honour of flying awards was made by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, last night. “It is just a little more than three months since .1 was able to announce that the second hundred awards had been reached and now the total has increased to 253,” said Mr Jones. “Numbered in this list are many officers and men with double decorations and, just recently, acting Wing Commander E. P. Wells, Distinguished Flying Cross and bar, was awarded the Distinguished Service Order to secure a .most impressive triple award. In the earlier days of the war. the majority of awards to New Zealanders were won by men who had gone from the Dominion to accept a short service commission with the Royal Air Force, but since then, the list of awards to Now Zealanders who have received theninitial training in the Dominion has been increasing steadily.”
