MASTERTON COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL. REPAIRS TO DONOVAN’S BRIDGE. The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday, the chairman, Mi’ R. E. Gordon Lee presiding. Further reports were received regarding the suspension of work on the Ruamahanga River Bridge at Te Whiti.

The council agreed to ask for a revote of the unexpended balance of road votes for the year up to March 31, 1942. It was decided to carry out repairs to Lett’s Road Bridge over the Taueru River. The bridge, a new structure, was damaged by earthquake. The engineers, Messrs Seaton, Sladden and reported the completion of a culvert on the MastertonStronvar Highway. The contractor of Lett’s Road Bridge No. 2 expected to complete the bridge by the end of this week.

A temporary span had been, built at the eastern end of Donovan’s Bridge, the overseer (Mr B. L. Larson) reported, over a washout made by the recent flood. Extensive protective work was required to make the bridge safe from further erosion.
