GREYTOWN

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Gitytown League of Mother's was held yesterday afternoon in the Parish Hall when Mrs Bull presided over a large attendance of members. Members expressed pleasure at seeing Mrs Bull back again after her long illness. Sympathy was extended to the Rev. J. A. E. Preston, Presbyterian minister, in the loss of his wife, members standing in silence for a few moments as a mark of respect. Mrs Maddison gave the thought for the month. Mrs Bull expressed sympathy with Mrs Wenden, Senr., who is at present in the Greytown Hospital, and with Mrs Wiggins, whose husband is also in the hospital. Mesdames J. Stringfellow and S. Skeet thanked the League for letters of sympathy received during their illnesses. The annual report was read by Mrs Wiggins, and the balance sheet by Mrs W. J. Knell. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs T. N. Smallwood; vice-presidents, Mesdames A. W. Horton. A. Haigh and Maddison; secretary, Mrs W. Wiggins; treasurer, Mrs W. J. Knell: general committee, Mesdames Orr, Knowles-Smith, Te Waite, Everett, York, Hay, Ross and W. Drysdale: magazine secretary, Mrs M'. Greathead; choir conductor, Mrs A. York; sick visitor, Mrs Benseman; pianiste. Mrs 11. G. Carter; auditor. Miss Duff. Before vacating the chair Mrs Bull was presented with a posy and a small gift by Mrs A. Haigh from members as a mark of appreciation of her services while acting as president. It was reported that at the executive meeting held in the Plunket Rooms last week it was decided to forward a donation of £1 to the Patriotic Committee for two local soldiers’ parcels. During the afternoon the Glee Choir sang “The Ash Grove” and “I Know a Bank.” Mrs Munn, of Waingawa, gave a demonstration on patch-work quilt making. The quilt she had on show was the one which she exhibited at the Wellington Exhibition and was greatly admired by all present. Mrs Bull thanked Mrs Munn and presented her with a posy of violets and daphne. The hostesses were Mesdames Wiggins, Gregor, A. Haigh and KnowlesSmith. TOWN HALL DOUBLE PROGRAMME. Tomorrow night there will be presented a double programme including “Seven Sinners,” one of the best pictures ever brought to the screen and in it Marlene Dietrich, John ’Wayne, Albert Dekker and Mischa Auer have the principal roles. “Playmates,” the associate picture, provides excellent comedy,.with Kay Kyser and Patsy Kelly at their best.
