The Berlin radio, in a special announcement, declared that the Luftwaffe and U-boats since July 2, have attacked a large and strongly escorted British-American convoy of 38 vessels, en route to Archangel. German bombers, the enemy radio adds, sank an American cruiser and nineteen merchantmen, totalling 122,000 tons. U-boats sank nine merchantmen totalling 70,400 tons. The remainder of the convoy was dispersed and is being again attacked.
