VISITING TRADESMEN

POSITION IN MASTERTON DEFINED. From a report appearing in yesterday’s issue of the “Times-Age” in which particulars were given relating to visiting tradesmen, it has erroneously been assumed that over 100 bricklayers are engaged in Masterton borough and adjacent counties, to carry out earthquake repairs. Actually 127 billets have been provided but many of these tradesmen have since been transferred to other parts of the Wairarapa. In regard to the men remaining in Masterton, 26 are Public Works employees and contractors engaged by the Government in demolition work at the Masterton Post Office and in Queen Street, and 49 are soldiers who have been released from camp and are assisting tradesmen. The remainder comprise bricklayers, bricklayers’ labourers and plumbers engaged in the Masterton borough and the three adjacent counties.
