FUND IN VERY HEALTHY STATE. v INCREASE IN CREDIT BALANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Social Security Fund for the last financial year showed a very healthy position, the Minister of Health (Mr Nordmeyer) stated today. 1 Expenditure on invalidity, age and widows’ benefits etc., amounted to £10,576,000, medical and hospital benefits, £2,437,000, and emergency and administration expenses, £520,000. Receipts from the Social Security charge, registration fee and miscellaneous, amounted to £21,064,000 and £3,600,000 was transferred from the Consolidated Fund. The credit at the beginning of the year w - as £1,867,000 and at the end of the year £3,023,000. The amounts spent on maternity benefits totalled £549,870. Medical benefits totalled £205,672, including £114,608 capitation fees. Hospital benefits totalled £1,374,204; pharmaceutical benefits, £279,968, and radiological services, £27,962. The Minister said the £3,600,000 con- . tributed from the Consolidated Fund was a smaller amount than it was originally contemplated would be required for the Social Security scheme. It was actually less than the amount coming from the Consolidated Fund for pensions before the Social Security scheme was inaugurated.
