GREYTOWN
MEN OF THE SERVICES ENTERTAINMENT EFFORTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Greytown continues to live up to its reputation for the entertaining of soldiers, sailors and airmen in public as well as in private homes. Bands of energetic ladies take every available opportunity of seeing that soldiers visiting' the town are made welcome and everything possible done for their comfort and entertainment. In the days of the Boer War and the Great War, Greytown did more than its share in patriotic activities, but, commendable as those efforts were, they pale into insignificance compared with the programmes provided today. Greytown is determined that it will maintain the standard of the past, and men in the services can always be sure of a warm welcome in the town named after a great statesman.
Sport at Low Ebb.
The war has practically killed sport in Greytown, though hockey and golf continue to flourish but not to the same extent as in pre-war days. Football, which had its home in Greytown, has been wiped out as the result of available players having been drafted into the fighting services, while cricket has been dormant for some seasons. Both these sports were in very strong positions a few years ago and local enthusiasts are hoping that at the end of the war Greytown will again take its rightful place in both football and cricket. Some day Greytown hopes again to see in the field footballers of the calibre of Jack and Bob Workman, Will and Ern Cook, Ted Raisens, Billy Jackson, Archie McMaster, Tim McMaster, George Olliver, Dan Udy, Toby Ross, Paddy Maguire, Mat Maguire, the Skeets and the Beards. TOWN HALL ‘•WATERLOO BRIDGE.” The sensational drama, “Waterloo Bridge,” will be shown tonight. It tells a most pathetic story in which the leading roles are enacted by Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor.
