WHATMAN SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the Whatman School Committee, Major V. Dick presided. Others present were Messrs S. Allen, C. W. Dickason, E. E. Downes, and G. T. Wagg. Major Dick extended a hearty welcome to the new headmaster, Mr J. B. Johnstone, who commenced duties this term, and to the new committee member, Mr E. E. Downes. It was decided to purchase three sets of first-aid materials and supplies, as well as emergency supplies of rations, such as cocoa, biscuits, chocolate, and the like. Parents are to be circularised regarding the erection of suitable shelters for the children, Major Dick offering to co-operate in this matter by way of sharing shelters provided for the Whatman Home children. The headmaster was authorised to purchase sports materials as required. Accounts totalling £4 5s 6d were passed.
