WOMEN’S DIVISION. ■ MONTHLY MEETING IN MASTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the Rest Room, Masterton, on Wednesday, Mrs C. C. Jackson presiding. A letter from headquarters stated that branches throughout New Zealand had voted against the annual conference being held this year. Owing to the illness of the Dominion president, Mrs Adam. Mrs W. Orr (Southland) had been appointed acting president. It was decided, to make an appeal among members for files and rasps of which there was a shortage in New Zealand for defence nurnoses and essential work. It was stated that the 400 tons of files thrown away in New Zealand each year wn"ld have made 125 onn rifle®, or 600.000 Mills bombs or 500.000 tin hats. Thus ‘members would’ realise the importance of contributing o’d files rasps to the war effort in New Zealand. AU fiP- could be left in the letter box at the Rest Room. King Street. Masterton. where "w would be packed and sent away to Wellington. The members decided to join the Crippled Children’s Society. A number of knitted comforts, books, naners. music and records were received and are to he donated to the Mercantile Marine. It was stated a further supply of wool had been received for knitting.
