THE WOES OF GOEBBELS
SAYINGS THAT ARE REMEMBERED There is a story of a chameleon which “bust itself”, when put on a Scottish tartan. One' cannot help wondering how far Dr. Goebbels may find himself in the same situation, considering the differences between what he has to say to his own people from time to time. For instance, early last year, he issued the following comment on America’s Lease-Lend Bill. This is what he said, as recorded by the 8.8.C.’s Monitoring Service:—“For us in Germany the passage of the LeaseLend Bill is as important as if, say, a pup were born in Ormskirk, or an ass had died in Princes Risborough. When the real U-boat campaign starts, it will soon be realised that the Fuehrer was in earnest when he declared on January 30 that Germany was prepared for all eventualities, and that he had taken all possibilities into consideration and had provided for them.”
