POWERFUL GERMAN AIR FORCES BY R.A.F. OFFENSIVE IN EUROPE MASS OF WAR SUPPLIES FOR EASTERN FRONT. DESTROYED IN TREMENDOUS RAID ON LUBECK. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.0 p.m. LONDON, April 20. “Germany is being forced to withhold powerful air forces from ether war theatres to meet the new R.A.F. offensive in Europe,” says the “Daily Mail’s” aeronautical correspondent. “The Russians’ recent marked air successes are due in no small part to British pressure in the west. Great German air forces based in the Mediterranean for the spring drive to Suez are still hold immobile.” The correspondent adds that a high official described the R.A.F. raid on Lubeck on March 28 as the greatest single reverse the Germans have suffered in the Russian war for weeks. Everything suggests that an enormous amount of war material, awaiting shipment across the Baltic to the German armies in Russia, was destroyed in the inferno that swept Lubeck.

Skeferis, former Greek Minister in Budapest, on his arrival at Istanbul, en route for Cairo. He added that thousands of the more prosperous Germans were moving from vulnerable points to Budapest and Vienna, where hotels were overflowing. Many factories were also being moved, particularly to Prague and Vienna.
