WHEAT CAMPAIGN

FIRST THOUSAND ACRES PROMISED. MASTERTON COUNTY AREAS. Stating that he had received replies from 22 growers of wheat so far, Mr N. Lamont, of the Department of Agriculture, Masterton, referring to the response to the appeal for an increased acreage of wheat next season, said that already over 1000 acres had been promised.

Considering that the campaign could hardly be regarded as having been officially started until after Wednesday’s meeting, when Messrs W. W. Mulholland and R. B. Tennent would address prospective growers in Masterton, this total, he said, was very satisfactory indeed. Practically the whole of the. promised area was in the Masterton County and mostly in the Opaki and Mt. Bruce area. Growers in Masterton County, said Mr Lamont, had certainly set a worthy example for the southern countries to emulate.
