VAST INCREASES
IN MUNITIONS PRODUCTION IN INDIA
SUCCESS IN MANUFACTURE OF PLANES. CONSTRUCTION OF BIG SHIPS IN PROSPECT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, January 7. Vast increases in munitions production are recorded in India. All ordnance factories, all railway workshops and nearly 300 civil factories are working at maximum capacity to increase still further the immense supply of warlike stores pouring from Indian factories to battle zones throughout the East, says “The Times” Delhi correspondent. The Government is bearing the cost of 20 new munitions projects and is establishing and modernising Indiafi ordnance factories. India has now advanced toward selfsufficiency in the manufacture of highexplosives. The success of the Indian company producing planes under Government plan is largely due to the help of the United States Government in facilitating the supply of the majority of essential machine tools.
The Admiralty is supporting the Indian programme for building large merchantmen. Bulletproof armoured plate now made in India enables the authorities to produce armoured vehicles formerly imported, and increasing numbers of them are being sent far overseas.
