IHURAUA

MAKAREWA GOLF CLUB SEASON CLOSED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Makarewa Golf Club closed the season during the weekend. In spite of the boisterous day there was a good attendance and an enjoyable time was spent. The president, Mr C. R. Judd, welcomed the visitors and thanked the owners of the land for the continued use of the links, the green keepers for their work, and the'ladies for providing afternoon tea. In spite of adverse weather conditions affecting the number of competitions played and the fall in membership owing to the war the season had been a very satisfactory one, said Mr Judd. Mr J. Bennett, who has been club secretary for the past three seasons, is to be married before the end of the year and to him Mr Judd extended the good wishes of all members. The following are the trophy winners: Men, Heckler Challenge Cup, P. Nielson; President’s Trophy, P. Nielson; Captain’s Trophy, C. R. Judd; P. Nielson’s Trophy, T. A. ,Weston; club competitions, C. R. Judd, J. Meredith, J. Bennett, D. Bennett, P." Nielson, T. A. Weston. Ladies:—President’s Trophy, Mrs Weston; P. Nielson’s Trophy, Mrs Judd; club competitions, Mrs Weston, Mrs Judd, Miss E. Dagg and Miss S. Bennett. The afternoon’s competition, a mixed foursome, resulted in P. Pickering and Mrs Judd and R. Weston and Mrs Weston being equal. Weston and Mrs Weston won the draw. Jr Winner of Ham. The Christmas ham donated by Mr and Mrs S. Anderson to the Ihuraua Patriotic Sewing Guild was drawn recently, the winner being Mrs Donald James. Social Club. At a meeting of the Ihuraua Social Club over which Mr J. H. Macdonald presided, it was decided to hold a , Christmas tree gathering for local children at the end of the school term. Shearing Operations. Shearing is now in full swing in the district and some sheds have “cut out.” Personal. Miss E. Bennett has returned to “Hoebridge” after a holiday spent in Auckland.
