EKETAHUNA
ATHLETIC CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club was held last evening, when the president (Mr S. Daniel) presided over an excellent attendance of members and supporters. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The balance sheet showed that a small loss had resulted in the year's working. The secretary (Mr C. Hausman) explained that the net profit on the annual sports had Peen devoted to patriotic purposes and that the club had paid its annual commitments from the general funds. Messrs G. Lennard and S. ’Watts were elected members of the club. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr L. Russell; president. Messrs F. Preston, D. Salter, S. J. O'Regan, 0. Parsons, K. Marenzi and W. Beales; committee, Messrs R. Payne, H. Daniel, H. Rogers, T. Jago, B. Mountjoy, F. West and T. Hooper; secretary, Mr C. Hausman; auditor, Mr R. Payne. The question of holding a sports meeting this year was left to the incoming committee to decide. A recommendation was made to the incoming committee that in the event of a sports meeting being held, Highland events' be included in the programme. Mr D. Salter outlined a scheme ' for the introduction of athletics at the District High School. The meeting promised Mr Salter assistance in the way of equipment. The following resolution is to be handed to the incoming committee for consideration: “That in the event of an effort being made to raise funds for patriotic purposes, the club retain a percentage of the net proceeds.” The first committee meeting is to be held on December 18. A hearty vote of thanks to the chair concluded an enthusiastic meeting. CRUELTY TO CHILD WOMAN SENT TO GAOL. At the Eketahuna S.M. Court on Wednesday, before Mr H. P. Lawry, S. Mrs D. Peck, of Eketahuna, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour for ill-treating a young child. The police described the case as a particularly bad one. In sentencing accused, the Magistrate (Mr H. P. Lawry) said that he could not accept any excuse for such treatment of a young child. A fine was out of the question. LIQUOR AT DANCE ACCUSED FINED. P. Twentyman. for having been in possession of liquor at a dance was fined £3 with 12s costs at the S.M. Court on Wednesday . •
