GERMANS IN MOSCOW AREA

Front Tested at Many Points STUBBORN DEFENCE AND COUNTER-ATTACKS MET RED ARMY RECAPTURES VILLAGES (By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, November 13. The Germans have intensified their scouting operations on the Moscow front, possibly preparing for a further attempt to break the deadlock on the approaches to the capital, says the Kuibyshev correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. German units have tested the Red Army lines with local attempts along the whole central front, concentrating especially against the flanks. On the northern tip of the Moscow front, the Germans are attempting to push northeastward of the Kalinin sector, but the German infantry met with a stubborn resistance and counter-attacks. In the northeastern quarter of the Kalinin sector, the Russians pushed the Germans back towards the Volga, despite a hurricane of mortar, machine-gun and rifle fire. South-eastward of Kalinin, a Russian! unit crossed the Volga and successfully raided the German rear. The Russians repulsed a German attack on the village of Proning, in the Serpukhov sector. The Red Army recaptured two villages in the same „ sector. The Russian and German positions near Naryfominsk are reported to be only forty to fifty yards apart in some places.
