POSTER OF 1940

PREPARED BY GERMANS REQUISITIONING OF BRITISH GOODS. PUBLICATION IN BELGIUM. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 12. The text of a poster written in English and German which the Germans intended to put out in Britain in the autumn of 1940 has been received from Belgium. It is stated that it was brought to London by Belgians who picked up copies which had fallen from a lorry returning to Germany in November, 1940, after - the Germans realised it was impossible to invade Britain. J

The following is the text:— “All the following goods are hereby requisitioned by the German authorities: Agricultural produce, food, fodder supplies of all kinds, ores, raw metal, unfinished metal products of all kinds, precious metals, silicates, asbestos, precious and semi-precious stones cut and uncut, mineral oils, combustibles of all kinds, industrial oils, fats, wax, gum, lime, rubber in all forms, textiles of all descriptions, leather, furs, skins, all kinds of timber unhewn and sawn (planks, beams, 'sleepers, poles, etc.). “Requisitioned goods mentioned above may not be sold or altered or removed to another place. They are to be handled with care and protected against deterioration. Goods within the normal limits of household stocks will not be subject to requisition. “Farmers and merchants, including inn keepers and hotel proprietors, may retain agricultural produce, foodstuffs and fodder in such quantities as will satisfy the absolute minimum requirements of their clientele. Craftsmen 1 (bootmakers, saddlers, etc.) and shopkeepers are authorised to supply consumers in the same ration.

“Contravention of these regulations will be punished.” Signed by “The Army Commander.” The text of the poster has been published in Belgian in the secret news paper “Libre Belgique.”
