OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

a LOCAL CHURCH HISTORY ■" ""—I ’’ (To the Editor.) Sir, —Turning to early Anglican re- . cords extending even beyond the first Carterton settlement, we find Three . Mile Bush represented in the baptisms ’ (years 1858 and 1859) of Eleanor Elizabeth Theobald, Hannah Stinson, George Augustus Fairbrother, George Bambry, and Mary Ann Cadwallader; 1 one of which number eventually be-1 coming first Mayor of Carterton, when the name Three Mile Bush was a name as much overlooked as forgot. The names of 52 others baptised between the years 1859 (now Carterton in the register) and 1864, when the Rev. Dan Desbois was curate to the Rev. Wm. Ronaldson, also are of historic Interest: — Eliza Ann Fairbrother, Elizabeth Ann Wakelin, Lavinia Wakelin, Frederick Parker, Henry Oates, Maria Edith Francis, Mary Lydia Edwards, Samuel Stinson, Rob-

ert Hannah, Ellen Elizabeth Hannah, Eliza Alice King, Sarah Cadwallader, Samuel Ridgeway, John Boys, Charles Fairbrother, John Bambry, Mary Ann Goodin, Ellis Goodin, Ellen Jane Oates, Emily Peters, James Peters, Hannah Peters, Henrietta Wakelin, Ellen Bennett, Margaret Daysh, Robert George Edwards, John Sage, Charles Reid, George Henry Richardson, George Bell, f Janet McKenzie, Christina McKenzie, Hugh Hannah, Willie Moore, William Ridgeway, Edwin King, Caro-, line Wakelin. Caroline Goodin, Margaret Ann Dixon. Mary Kiddie, Frank William Parker, Samuel Parker, Mary Tweeddale, Thomas F. Fairbrother, Alice Lydia Wilton, William Bennett, Eliza Ann Stoodley, William Peters, William McKenzie, John Daysh, Alfred Scully Hannah, and Harry William Clay. The four last-named were baptised at Taratahi tby Mr' Desbois. All the others named were baptised by Mr Ronaldson, at either Carterton or Taratahi Plain.

Trusting the above information will prove of added interest to their descendants who were doubtless big contributors to the patronage, as formerly, of this year’s Carterton Show.— I am, etc.,
