EDUCATIONAL EXAMINATION RESULTS. SUCCESSFUL WAIRARAPA CANDIDATES. Air Force trainees on educational courses who passed the Air Force Preliminary Examinations hold on August 25 and 26 are: Masterton classes: A. B. Cunningham, C. E. Mooney. F. S. Sewell, H. E. Stalker. Masterton correspondence: G. V. Buick (Masterton.); W. J. Cave (Masterton); A. R. J. Chisholm (Featherston): C. M. Clarke (Masterton): P. H. Deller (Martinborough); S. J. Falloon (Masterton); K. E. S. Fenwick (Featherston); K. Groves (Eketahuna); A. G-. Harrington (Masterton); W. E. Kewley (Eketahuna); C. W. McCardle (Martinborough); I. C. McLachlan (Masterton); R. E. Weston (Masterton); D. J. C. Freeman (Mauriceville). All the men listed are men who have been selected provisionally for the air crew either as airmen pilots, air observers or air gunners. The fact that they have now passed this preliminary educational test means that, if medically fit, they will be posted to the Ground Training School at Levin later for training as airmen pilots, air observers or air gunners. AU men selected for the air crew are now required to satisfactorily complete a preliminary educational course, owing first to the fact that it brings them up to the necessary standard in mathematics and elementary science if they were at the outset below this standard, and secondly, to the fact that the course includes many matters, such as elementary air navigation, theory of flight, map projections and meteorology, which are included in the course at the Ground Training School and which aid the work being done at that station.
Air Force preliminary tests are held six or seven times a year on the completion of each course of this instruction. No. 9 Air Force Preliminary Educational Course commenced, on Monday, September 15, and most of the men interviewed within the last few weeks have been posted to that course. No. 10 Course will commence on Monday. November 3.
