KIATERE CLUB “HARES AND HOUNDS” RUN. WIN FOR G. HAYES. On Saturday, under ideal conditions members of the Kiatere Harrier Club held a “hare and hounds” run over approximately five miles. W. MacDonald and W. Burgess were the “hares” and left 20 minutes ahead of the pack The pack went very well but were caught on numerous false trails which enabled the “hares’’ to romp home 15 minutes ahead of the “hounds.” In the pack G. Hayes and H. MacDonald had a strenuous tussle over the last 300 yards, Hayes scoring an extremely naarrow win over MacDonald, who ran a good race. Next week the senior runners ' will compete for the Carter-Scrimshaw Trophy, an open handicap event, over a 6; l s miles course. The juniors will hold a 3s miles open handicap. These races will start from the Solway Showgrounds at 2.30 p.m.
