TROOPS AT TRENTHAM

CEREMONIAL PARADE. ADDRESSES BY SIR C. NEWALL & MR NASH. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Troops training at Trentham made an excellent display when they paraded in battle dress on the camp parade ground to be addressed by the Governor-General (Sir C. Newall) and the Acting-Premier (Mr Nash). They gave the Royal Salute as his Excellency arrived and again when he drove off, and later were seen marching off to the day’s work, at which stage it was clearly evident that they were keen and efficient. “The spirit of Anzac lives in each one of you,” said Sir C. Newall. “By your deeds your country will be judged.” Mr Nash reminded the troops that they had a country well worth defending. There were 'two countries that stood out supreme today—the British Commonwealth and the United States. They were linked together so that all free people might have a right to live and expand. The troops had a great deal to defend. They had high standards and free traditions and that freedom included all that they possessed, their people, soil, future and children.

Mr Nash was accompanied by the Minister of Defence and Supply (Mr Sullivan) and Mr Adam Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet. The troops were under the command of Major R. F. Mitchell. M.C., V.D.
