PIG MARKETING

N.Z. CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATION. SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED. In all departments of its activities the published figures of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association record an expansion of business, the volume handled for the year being a record in all respects. Altogether the association marketed just, over 110,000 pigs, 329.000 bobby calves and 4,300 cull cattle, amounting in all to a total of 443,295 carcases with an aggregate hooks weight of 26,602,510 lbs. Once again a very large proportion of the total weight of pig meat handled was disposed of direct from the producer to the retail trade through its own subsidiary curing factories. The association’s turnover stands at a record figure of £609,000, which together with that of its subsidiaries would exceed £BOO,OOO. In spite of general increases in costs, the association’s administration and collecting costs have again been held at a very lbw figure. During the season over £474,203 has already been distributed to suppliers of pigs, bobby calves and cull cattle, find there is a net surplus available for final distribution to pig and cull cattle suppliers of £23,000, this amount being exclusive Of share credits and other benefits on qualified supply. The association’s subscribed capital now stands at £36,746, an increase of £3,400 on the figure published last year, and paid up capital now stands at £12,825, an increase of £1,700 on last year's figure.
