COSY THEATRE
“DRUMS OF THE DESERT.” “Drums of the Desert,” the actionpacked Foreign Legion . story which comes to the Cosy Theatre tomorrow is of special interest in view of the fact that it depicts the manoeuvres of a battalion of parachute troops in action. Ralph Byrd, handsome athletic star, heads the cast as a ganant Captain Paul Dumont, special advisor to Sangalee parachute troops, instructing them in the latest methods of modern warfare. En route to his new post, Dumont falls in love with Helene, played by Lorna Gray. She returns his affection until it is discovered that he is the best friend of her fiance, Raoul (Peter George Lynn). The unhappy twosome, placing honour above personal feelings, agree to separate. Just before the day set for the wedding of Helene to Faoul, the latter is injured in a surprise Arab uprising, necessitating postponement of the ceremony. Again thrown together, this time for an unbearably long stretch of time, the lovers find it impossible to hide their true feelings. This tempestuous romance takes place against a background of intrigue and seething revolt on the Sahara which jeopardises the lives of all concerned.
Hugh Herbert brings a new kind of Romeo to th’e screen in his hilarious portrayal of a romantic gold brick salesman for Universal's farce comedy, “Slightly Templed,” also commencing tomorrow at the Cosy Theatre with Peggy Moran. Johnny Downs, Gertrude Michael, Ge.orge E. Stone and Elisabeth Risdon.
