FEATHERSTON
LONG SERVICE MR J. W. CARD’S RECORD. (“Times-Age” Special.) Forty-five years of continuous local body service, twenty-four years as Mayor of Featherston, is the record of Mr J. W. Card, who has been re-elect-ed mayor for a further term. Mr Card became a commissioner of the Featherston Town Board in 1896 and served continuously on that body until 1917, when a borough was formed. He was then elected mayor, which position he has held ever since. PATRIOTIC APPEAL ADDITIONAL DONATIONS. The following additional donations to the patriotic appeal fund are acknowledged: Concert, per Mrs O. E. Boston, £34 12s; stock, per Mr R. R. P. Hardy, £1 10s; total collection and donations to date, £1,049 2s 7d. Card Afternoons. The first of a series of card afternoons to raise funds for the furnishings and sewing machine for the Red Cross Rooms was held at Mrs Carlyon’s home on Monday afternoon, when a pleasant time was spent in playing bridge. The winners for the competitions were: Cake, Mrs Sharp; eggs, Miss K. Rowles. Personal. Mr J. Mutter left yesterday for Wellington, where he will visit his daughter, Mrs S. Brooker, Karori. Mrs Vincent Unverricht, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs J. C. Varnham, for the past three weeks has returned to her home in Hastings.
