TORPEDO BOMBER
PRODUCTION IN AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) MELBOURNE, May 6. The Beaufort torpedo bomber which made a successful experimental flight today was assembled from component parts imported from Britain. The aircraft was designed originally for a Bristol Taurus engine, but was re-designed in Australia, incorporating a PrattHandley twin-row Wasp engine. All the necessary modifications in the air frame were designed by the engineering staff of the Commonwealth Aircraft Production Commission, and the changes were made under the direction of Mr J. A. Latham, the _ Commission's chief engineer. The aircraft was assembled at the Commission’s workshops.
