VALUED BY ARABS

FRIENDSHIP WITH BRITAIN DECLARATION BY PRESIDENT OF LEAGUE. ADVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. May 4. The following statement has been made by the president of the Arab National League in the United Slates: “We are watching with great anxiety the developments in Iraq. We greatly sympathise with all efforts to attain legitimate Iraqui aspirations by peaceful means. England may have erred in the past, and we recognise the position of Palestine as being far from satisfactory for all parties concerned, but under Hitler there can be no future for the Arab world. It is England which liberated the Arabs of Iraq and aided them to become a proud and independent people.

"We, therefore, believe it would be .in the best interests of Iraq and all other Arab States to maintain their traditional friendly relations with Britain and attempt to adjust all differences by means of direct negotiations with British representatives and the Arab world.

“The United States, the country of our adoption, is lending full support to the democracies of the world. Its tremendous resources are bound to ensure the victory of Britain and the other democracies. We urge you not to be misled by temporary Axis victories, but to consider the ultimate outcome of -the war.”
