TENNIS TOURNEY

CONCLUSION IN UNPLEASANT WEATHER. MEN’S SINGLES FINAL WON BY R. McL. FERKINS.. Heavy rain delayed play and a cold southerly wind made conditions particularly unpleasant for the concluding events of the Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association’s Easter tournament at the United Club’s courts. Masterton, yesterday afternoon.

The men's championship singles was won by R. McL. Ferkins (Wellington) who beat P. Hawksworth 7/5, 6/4. in a final which was of a high standard considering the heavy and slippery court. Mrs R. H. Milburn (Hawke’s Bay) beat Mrs G. Cotterill (Hawke’s Bay). 7/5, 12/10, in the final of the women’s singles.

The combined doubles event was abandoned owing to further heavy showers. The tournament was well-conducted by a hard-working band of officials. The proceeds will be allocated to the National Patriotic Fund.
