Riots are reported to have broken out in Paris as the result of the Germans taking food from the French people to give to the German troops. Women with babies gathered at suburban town halls and shouted that milk should be provided for them quickly. Milk is given sparingly to children and sick people, but German nurses distribute it at stations to German troops. An undrinkable milk is served with coffee and grocers' shops bear a notice that they roast coffee, not for sale, but for the Gorman troops. Housewives have become infuriated by the pillaging of food supplies, and there arc reports of disorders at the central market and the meat market At the central market the Germans made a clean swoop of the potatoes after women had waited in a queue for hours. As a punishment the Germans deprived thorn of potatoes for 40 days. The disorders at the meat market were punished in a similar manner.
