DAYLIGHT CHALLENGE
sweep over pas de Calais THREE GERMAN PLANES SHOT DOWN. OTHERS DAMAGED ON GROUND. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10,53 a.m.) RUGBY. January 10. An Air Ministry communique states: "A strong force of fighters, accompanied by R.A F. bombers, made an extensive sweep over the Pas de Calais a*, midday. Several enemy aerodromes were bombed and machine-gunned and attacks were also made from a low level on military installations and patrol vessels, "Only a few enemy lighters were encountered. Three wore shot down and a number damaged on the ground. None of our planes art' missing from these operations, but one fighter crashed on returning, the pilot being injurAnothor communique- states: "H is now known that in 1 . t night’s raid on North-West England two enemy bombers were shot down by anti-air-craft tire, "In R.A !•'. operations over Germany last night, one of our bombers engaged and shot down an enemy lighter.” The usual evening communique on the enemy's daylight activities against Britain states that there : nothing to report.
